So, Karra’s BFF got married in July and a sweet couple in our Life Group got married last week. I wanted to make something special for them that wouldn’t take until Christmas or their 1st Anniversary (shhh, that’s in the works). I’ve had this coaster idea piling up in my sewing room so I decided to give it a try.
First, I started with some basic supplies, yep that’s the lid from a can of baked beans! Some craft cork and utility fabric. Also, brown felt that I forgot to put in the picture. I used craft glue to glue the cork circles to the inside of the lid – which is actually the outside when the lid is attached to the can, make sense? Hope so!
Then I cut circles of fabric 3″ across and centered the lid cork side down on the fabric. Using my glue gun I glued the 4 corners down pulling the fabric tight. Then I ran a bead of hot glue along the inner rim of the lid and pressed the fabric down tight. It’s not pretty, but I’m not done!!
The last step was to stamp a pretty pattern onto the coasters and then pressed them with a hot iron using a press cloth to heat set the ink. I used browns because it goes with Karra’s BFF’s color scheme, but I liked it so well that I used the same colors for our Life Group couple just a different stamp. These are for the BFF. I can’t wait to give them to her at her party. And I am so happy with how they turned out. I can’t wait to add some color and excitement to Christmas coasters. I’m thinking for my mother-in-law who uses lots of coasters!
And That’s What I’ve Been Successfully Doing All By Myself!
