I came home from dance on Tuesday and Miss Kristen had finished her bonnet. She did everything by herself except for the brim. She had put it on backwards and inside out, so I fixed it for her. Oh, does she look cute! Now, we’ll get the pinafore done and I’ll be honor bound to post the picture. She is (and should be) so proud of herself.
After a tiny bit more reading, there’s no use convincing Joel about the Beltie. They are a meat bread. We want a dairy cow. So, the adorable Beltie will have to wait until the retirement homestead when we can have cows just for meat. Sigh.
I didn’t mention that I got our garden seeds started on Tuesday. Jumbo climbing tomatoes, grape tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, lots of giant marigolds, broccoli & cauliflower. Kristen planted turnip seeds in a gigantic egg shell. It was probably the biggest egg we’ve gotten yet. I’m going to plant potatoes this weekend because they are sprouting in the basement! I need to get them cut & let them scab over. Joel agreed to fence my garden this weekend and till it up again. I just don’t have the money for all of the peat & sand I’d like to put in right now. At least the rain has stopped for now & we have a few days to dry things out before it rains again. I’m going to use straw around my potatoes this year. No more tires – Joel won (actually, the potatoes just didn’t grow).
And that’s what’s happening on the homestead!
