We found our first egg last night! I went out to put the girls away and after closing their door, I looked down at the post and there was a small brown egg. I couldn’t believe it! I cradled it like it were from Fabrege and took in to show the family. Lots of excitement! (except for Kurt, he was almost asleep). I’d noticed one of the chickens had been digging in the nest box and burying the wooden eggs, but didn’t think to much of it. Maybe I need to take out some of the bedding. I hope they realize soon that they need to lay the eggs IN the nest box and not outside on the ground. They’re getting pretty bold with their free-ranging (one got into the garden twice last night) and I don’t want my eggs scattered where we’ll never find them!
Kristen cooked up the home egg next to a store egg this morning and oh, the difference! The store egg was so pale and the home egg so dark yellow. And the taste!! I’ve never really noticed the taste difference before, but when you eat them side by side, it is so obvious!
I climbed .8 miles this morning while visiting the Australian outback (Karra’s school book). That’s 1.5 miles for the week. We’re off to the hairdresser this afternoon and Kurt’s first soccer practice. TTFN
